My experience with meaningful wall art

In 2019, I was working full-time while operating my interior design business in the evenings and on weekends. I desperately wanted to leave my day job but the time wasn't right. This is when I precisely followed the Bagua Map to display specific decorative items in my office cubicle that symbolized what was important to me. I created an environment where I was physically sitting in the center of my dreams every day (symbolically represented by the objects and images around me). To say it was inspiring and motivating is an understatement. Not only did it make me appreciate sitting at my desk every day, but others loved it too. Countless times, people would come in to conduct business and they'd ask if they could stay with me because it was so serene. They didn't detect the discontent I was personally feeling because the hidden messages I had in my décor, kept me feeling uplifted and excited.
I realized I was not alone with my feelings of discontent. Several of my coworkers had different reasons and aspirations but we could all relate to longing to be somewhere else. With them in mind, my intentional décor habits started expanding beyond my office suite and into the women's restrooms and staff lounge. I created large posters with a combination of images, words, or quotes. I hung the poster shown below in the restroom. One woman said, "every time I see your poster, I literally pause and breathe." The words and refreshing views had a powerful, uplifting effect on us all.

I don't know about you but each time I read or hear the words "Hello Beautiful," I feel giddy inside. Hoping to evoke the same reaction in others, I added the next poster at the entrance to the restroom. I wanted women to feel that they were on a journey when they opened the door to read "Hello Beautiful!" and then as they walked down the corridor, turned towards the sinks and stalls, they saw something surprising, serene, and beautiful. I was creating visual prompts for them to slow down and breath.

As they were leaving, they would see this vibrant, beautiful, woman laughing, often combined with an inspirational quote.

And then, since most people can't resist fuzzy puppies or kittens, I added this poster at the exit. One day as I was leaving, I noticed a yellow sticky note on the poster. Someone wrote "thank you" to the person who did this. It sure made my day!

Another area that needed a soft touch was the employee lounge. There was a small kitchenette in this area and often there would be sticky notes on the wall angrily demanding that people clean up after themselves. I tried to send the same request but softer. "Tidy up" can be interpreted in many ways! :-) And when there are pretty things in a space, people seem to be more conscious about keeping it looking nice.

Notice the items you choose to display in your space and notice how they affect you. You can uplift your energy by surrounding yourself with positive messages and wall art that is meaningful to you.
