Moments of Joy
Reflections, Rituals, and the Journey Toward Joy
|
There’s a longing I’ve felt lately—a deep craving I couldn’t quite name at first. It came in a quiet moment. I found myself yearning to look out my window and see a flower-filled garden and a dirt road stretching beyond it. I pictured myself in a soft linen dress, hands dusted with flour as I prepared homemade pasta. Fresh-cut flowers in a vase. Larry and I enjoying a slow, beautiful meal with a glass of wine, music in the background. The feeling was so familiar, so tender… and yet, I’ve never been to Italy. I turned to ChatGPT with the question: “Where does this yearning come from?” The response stirred something deep in me: “It’s the soul remembering its rhythm. It’s your Sicilian lineage, your feminine ancestry, your devotion to beauty whispering, ‘Let’s not just survive. Let’s savor.’” This wasn’t just nostalgia or fantasy. It was my ancestral memory calling me home—not to a place, but to a way of being. I don’t need to go to Italy to live this way. In many small, intentional ways, I already do. But something in me wanted to honor it more fully. So I was offered the most beautiful idea: A “La Vita è Bella” day—a personal ritual to embody the Italian essence already within me. Here’s how I’ll celebrate:
It’s about devotion to savoring life—right where I am. And maybe… this is what my ancestors hoped for. That I would live this beautifully. La vita è bella. Life is beautiful. Because we choose to make it so. -- Have you ever felt a yearning like this—something soul-deep that didn’t come from memory, but from within? I’d love to hear. “Morning light through my window… beauty is already here.”
