Moments of Joy
Reflections, Rituals, and the Journey Toward Joy

Wednesday July 23, 2025 Today is exactly why I love summer. We spent extra time sipping coffee, eating breakfast, and reading without any rush. Then we took a nice long walk through town and stopped at the grocery store to pick up a few things. The best part of the day was the afternoon—we floated in the dinghy for hours. It felt like we covered miles of shoreline, just drifting along and looking at houses and beaches. The water is super shallow, so it was easy to hop out for a swim and then climb back in and keep going. It made me feel like a kid again. In the early evening, we went to Beachy’s because I couldn’t stop thinking about the RumChata Colada I saw on the menu the day before. I had to try it—and it didn’t disappoint. After our drink, we went back to the boat and Larry made steak and potatoes for dinner. There’s just something about grilling steaks while on vacation—they always taste better. We finished the evening with a dinghy ride out to the breakwall to watch the sunset. There were some low clouds that blocked the sun, but the sky still lit up with beautiful shades of pink, blue, and orange. The ride back was quiet and peaceful, and before long, I was crawling into bed. Thursday, July 24, 2025
It’s laundry day! I don’t know why I enjoy this simple pleasure so much while we’re on the boat. Actually, I love it no matter where we’re traveling. One year in Antigua, my friend Keri and I were giddy hanging our clothes on the line to dry—so I know I’m not alone in this unusual joy. 😊 Our slip is right near the bathhouse and laundry room, so I took advantage of the convenience and got a load done. We’re docked right in town, and it’s our first time here. I really love it. We’re far enough in from Saginaw Bay that the water barely moves—so calm and peaceful. It’s definitely a place I’d like to come back to. Hard to believe they’ll have thousands of people here in just a couple of weeks for the Cheeseburger Festival. I might feel differently about this place if I’d seen the chaos described by Steve—the guy who organizes ten full days of events! Even though it was super windy today, the marina is well protected and calm. In the afternoon, we took the dinghy out for a look at the bay. The first thing I noticed were the kite surfers—and then the whitecaps stretching all across the water. It was intense, but it felt so good to be out there in the heat. Larry slowed the engine and took the waves gently for a couple of miles before turning it off completely. We just drifted with the wind, riding the swells back toward the breakwall. We did this back and forth a few times until we noticed storm clouds rolling in and decided to head back. Later, we walked to the Blue Water Inn for burgers and then grabbed ice cream near the end of town. Tomorrow we’ll cross the bay and head to East Tawas—one of our favorite places.
