Moments of Joy
Reflections, Rituals, and the Journey Toward Joy

Saturday, July 19, 2025 We started stirring around 7:30 a.m. and made our way to the coffee pot at 8:00 a.m. and then out to the cockpit to sip our first vacation coffee. These are the moments we live for. There were no bugs last night so we didn't put any canvas up. The morning sun was already warming the air of any chill from the night Soon we were eating onion bagels with cream cheese and some juicy nectarines I brought from home and by 9:00 a.m. we were performing our daily tasks during boating trips like pulling the dinghy up on the swim platform. We have a new dinghy this year and the ponts are much larger than our old one so it's taking some adjusting but we're starting to get the hang of it.
By 10:30, we were passing beneath the bridge and heading back onto the St. Clair River. There already seems to be a lot of boats and we made our way out into the flow. 30 minutes later the Blue Water Bridge was in our sight, along with the stern of a freighter. I asked Larry to slow down and follow the freighter beneath the bridge rather than try to pass alongside of this enormous vessel the way a few other boaters were. I don't know how they comfortably did that because there is a significant curve in the river at this point and even though it's plenty wide enough to accommodate freighters and boats, it looked like a tight squeeze to me. Thankfully Larry accommodates my conservative requests. At 12:30 p.m. we were comfortably secured in our dockslip in Lexington. We arrived just in time as what appeared to be rain clouds passing to the north of us. The storm they forecasted didn't come but the dark clouds hung around all day. It was a comfortable temperature to walk into town and visit some of the shops. We have been here many times and never have we seen so many tourists. The shop and restaurant owners must be thrilled. We walked to the beach, hoping to step into the warm, inviting Lake Huron we loved last year. It. was. not. warm. There were a few swimmers but just standing up to our ankles and my feet felt like icicles! We walked along the break wall, amazed at how low the lake is. The harbor is filling in with sand. It makes for beautiful scenery and a little stress for boats who need to pass through some unusually shallow water. My very favorite moment of this trip so far is the people on the two boats behind us. There are 4 couples and they are having so much fun! The women started singing and dancing to the music streaming out of one of their boats. One of the husbands went to his boat and pulled out 4 life jackets and made the women put them on just in case their dance steps took them beyond the edge of the dock. They were absolutely hilarious! The dark clouds that have been hovering all day finally released a bit of rain; maybe 10 minutes or so. There is a thunderstorm expected in a few hours and Larry already warned me he'll be watching it in his pjs.
