Saturday, August 4, 2024: Larry and I enjoyed our morning coffee and breakfast on the boat. Everyone else relaxed on the campground. Justin took a morning swim with the kids. Patrick set up his fishing gear and Stacie drove over to pick us up. They needed some grocery items so Larry went with her to shop in town while I packed some clothing and toiletry items to take to the campsite. We spent the entire day on the beach! Hours disappeared quickly with games of tag and playing fetch with the dogs. Camden was still excited with his new swimming skills and Shelby was showing us the moves she learned in swimming class. She's an excellent swimmer with impressive moves that I never had the stamina to bother with.
Larry and Patrick dug a cool spot in the sand for Betty White to cool herself in the shade they created for her, with a board and stick they found on the beach, and River was in full blown, high energy, puppy mode. We cooked hotdogs and sausage over the campfire for dinner and then walked over to see the lighthouse again. Patrick and Shelby wanted to fish off of the dock back at the marina so we drove back in that direction. We walked into town for ice cream. We hoped the kids would get to see a train but no such luck. With fishing gear in hand and dogs in tow, we walked along the dock in search of the perfect fishing spot. As we were walking along, River spotted a chipmunk on the edge of the break wall. OH. MY. GOODNESS. It was as if the Tasmanian Devil took over River's body and she was a flurry of madness trying to get at that chipmunk; she is a hunting dog after all so I gotta give her some respect. Thankfully, Stacie and Larry were able to distract her and the chipmunk found its way to safety. The commotion, that drew a lot of attention, was much easier to accept than a devastating result that could've happened. Sheesh. We sat on various benches along the long dock, as they tried several different locations to fish; each attempt was unsuccessful. When they got tired of trying, we walked back to the parking lot. Stacie and Patrick drove back to the campsite while Justin and the kids stayed to shower in the bathhouse at the marina. There are no lines, like there are in the park, and the showers are quite luxurious here. Larry and I sat on the sofa in the lounge. The sound of showers running in the background and Camden's sweet little voice singing as he showered, was echoing through the whole place. :-) Our hearts were overflowing.
