Monday, July 22, 2024: It was nearly noon before we pulled out of Petoskey and 90 minutes later we were at the gas dock in Northport Harbor. We watched another boater in the distance pull into the harbor ahead of us and I noticed that it made a sharp turn. As we approached the mouth of the harbor, we saw why. This is probably the smallest marina we've been to and with all the activities going on, it was a little intimidating coming in. The young dockhand was very friendly as he filled up our fuel tanks, single handed, because he had a broken arm. Typically, the dockhands push boats off of the wall once they're ready to leave and it didn't occur to me that he couldn't give us a good push until we heard a loud, disturbing noise. The tips on both of the inflatable tubes on the dinghy got caught in the metal grooves on the break wall. Thankfully they sprang back into place and no damage occurred, but the noise was so loud and drew unwanted attention from other boaters nearby. :-) Once I assured Larry that everything was ok, he focused back on the task at hand; getting us through a very small marina and into our boat slip. He did great! As soon as we tied up and got settled into our space, I texted our friends who live close by in Suttons Bay. They've been expecting us and Keri quickly replied, "I'm still working but Matt and my dad are on their way to meet you with a cooler. My mom and I will drive over soon." I don't know why I found this so funny but it was hilarious to me and I felt giddy when they arrived. As promised, Mike & Matt are walking down the dock, cooler and chairs in hand. It was so fun to catch up with them and fill them in about our adventures so far. After a while, they drove us to a nearby restaurant, Fischer's, where Mary & Keri met us for dinner. When we finished, we all went back to the boat and when they left to go back to Matt & Keri's house, Larry and I walked the town. Everything closes very early. The town was empty which gave me the perfect opportunity to take pictures of the adorable and unique shops and restaurants. I know I've mentioned this before but I have to say it again; "I love summer!" As I'm writing this post, looking back at my pictures, I'm in awe that it's still light out for my last picture of the day that I took at 9:41 p.m. Absolutely stunning! Leaving Petoskey at 11:50 a.m. Stunning colors! Arriving Northport at 1:26 p.m. Everything was closed by the time we walked through town at 8:30 p.m. So many beautiful places!
