Moments of Joy
Reflections, Rituals, and the Journey Toward Joy

Photo by Mick Haupt on Unsplash — a reminder of the part of us still running, arms wide, toward joy. I wouldn’t have called myself a serious Jimmy Buffett fan. I never went to a concert. I didn’t own his albums. I only started listening to his music after meeting Larry. And yet, every time I hear the song Parrots & Pirates — Zac Brown Band’s tribute to Jimmy — I can hardly hold myself together. My throat tightens. My chest aches. My eyes well up. It doesn’t make logical sense. I’ve never been someone who follows celebrities. But something about Jimmy’s passing touched a nerve in me — and every time I think of him, there’s a quiet sorrow I can’t explain away. Until now. Jimmy Buffett wasn’t just a musician. He was a mood. A vibration. A lifestyle.
He stood for freedom, joy, playfulness, and being fully present to life. No hustle. No proving. Just being. He sang of salty breezes and second chances, of laughter and lounging, of simplicity and savoring. He lived the kind of easeful, soulful life many of us secretly crave — and few of us give ourselves permission to fully live. And maybe that’s why this grief surprised me. Because it isn’t about celebrity — it’s about frequency. The music Larry introduced me to was more than just background sound. It opened something in me. It reminded me of another way to live — one that’s been quietly unfolding in my own life ever since. Through Morning Joy. Through soulful mugs and slow mornings. Through dance and design and dreams by the lake. That song — Parrots & Pirates — hits like a wave. Because part of me recognizes what we lost. And part of me is still becoming what I found. I think that’s what grief really is sometimes: a recognition of something we love that’s leaving the world -- and something we love that’s just beginning to wake in ourselves. So thank you, Jimmy. For the music. For the magic. For the map. I’ll keep following the breeze.
