Labor Day and early spring seem to spur me into a cleaning, downsizing, and organizing frenzy. For several years now, I have been regularly getting rid of things that I don't want or need so these frenzies now only take me a day or two as opposed to a week or more to sort through our closets, drawers, and basement. Also for several years now, I have been very thoughtful about my purchasing decisions. If I don't love it or need it, I don't buy it. Before our Caribbean vacation in March this year, I bought a few new things to wear. When I tried everything on, there was one top and two dresses that didn't feel great to me. They looked adorable in the picture so I kept them, hoping I would eventually like them.
When I looked in my closet, these three garments were like neon flashing signs to me, filling me with irritation. I considered donating them but then I decided to look at the return policy for Boden and Prana. To my amazement, both online retailers will accept my returns, even though it is long after my purchase date! I nearly ran to the USPS to send these items back where they belong; to the retailers. Now I look in my closet and I'm at ease and relieved because I happily wear every item that is stored there. Can you make do with less? You might find yourself with less stress, less responsibility, less guilt. Do you have items in your house that fill you with irritation? What can you do about it? Comments are closed.
