For more than 25 years, I have been dreaming of Expressions, an imaginary brick and mortar shop that I will open some day. At different times over the years, the details of Expressions consumed my thinking so much that I would have to stop what I was doing just so I could write it down. I even designed the layout of the store for one of my projects when I was still in school. Then the dream will leave me for a time, maybe even a year, but it always comes back...thankfully. Several years ago, I started creating worksheets for friends to teach them my concept of "decorating with the intention." Those worksheets evolved into a book and video course that I created over the past year and now call, The Art of Decorating with Intention. A few years ago, my uncle taught me some of his artistic painting techniques. I always LOVED painting walls and it never occurred to me to try painting a canvas in an artistic manner until he opened my mind. This has evolved into a decent size collection of abstract paintings in some of my favorite Sherwin Williams paint color combinations. Also over the past few years, I started creating digital collages of beautiful images and inspiring quotes. I created them for myself, for friends and family, for blog posts, and for people who inspire me. When I print the collages and use them as decor, they became powerful reminders for me and others about who they are, who they want to be, and what their heart longs for. Today, I call them, Soul Snapshots, and I've probably created approximately 200 of them. I have dreamed of having a product line but believed it was only possible for famous interior designers. A friend, who is an artist, introduced me to an online shop called Red Bubble. She explained how she takes a photo of her completed artwork and then makes it available in products like greeting cards, pictures, or notepads. This evolved into the ability for me to have a product line, customized with my abstract designs on them! This brings me to where I'm at today, nine months into a pandemic that has turned our world upside down. It hasn't felt like an appropriate time to promote my services so I consumed myself with learning and creating, tying all these lose ends together into an offering. Last night I launched my online shop, Decorate with Intention! It's not Expressions but it is a start. I'm shocked at how real this feels, like my dream has come true, although it doesn't quite look like what I imagined. I'm still busy filling the shop with more painting designs and soul snapshots but there are several available now to choose from. I have many ideas of new books to write that will be added in the future and I have dreams of additional products too!
My most heartfelt wish is that I inspire you to follow your heart to create a home that fills you with joy, reflects who you are, what you value, and what you dream of. Whether I can assist you with an online design consultation or you are inspired by my books, video course, or my weekly conversations on YouTube (My Joyful Organized Home), I'm here for you. I want to know how else I may be helpful to you. Please connect with me and share your ideas and please know that when you visit Decorate with Intention, you are an active participant in making my dreams come true. It is currently a virtual space but I am still dreaming of inviting you in person some day, inside this beautiful, inviting space I will create one day. Until then, I'll see you in my dreams!
