What do you think is the common frustration most every client I've worked with (so far in 2023) has expressed to me? It's clutter and a lack of organization in their home. An overstuffed closet or an unwieldly collection of plastic containers may come to mind but it's more than this.

Do you love jigsaw puzzles? I do and designing a tiny area in my client's kitchen felt just like working a puzzle; moving the right pieces into their proper place. In this case, it's not just for fun but to alleviate the daily stress and frustration they experience from not having enough counter space and storage to meet their needs.
They eventually plan to renovate their kitchen with a total demo and expansion but that won't be for another five years or more and they need a temporary solution that can offer immediate relief.
Recently, I was invited to return with a new presentation for Virtual Fitness and Wellness Fridays, a series provided by Wayne County Community College, School of Continuing Education and Workforce Development. I love talking about all things home related and I was especially excited to talk about home from the perspective of self care. I truly can not think of a more powerful self care practice than to create a sanctuary; an intentional home environment that supports the life you dream of experiencing.
For more than 25 years, I have been dreaming of Expressions, an imaginary brick and mortar shop that I will open some day. At different times over the years, the details of Expressions consumed my thinking so much that I would have to stop what I was doing just so I could write it down. I even designed the layout of the store for one of my projects when I was still in school. Then the dream will leave me for a time, maybe even a year, but it always comes back...thankfully.
"My purpose is to find joy and follow my bliss." This is the quote that inspires me most and helps me put each day into perspective. Like you, what brings me joy and makes me feel blissful is constantly changing. I have dreams that I'm still longing to fulfill and getting there isn't a prescribed formula but I'm a person who requires a bit of structure and to be surrounded by inspiring guidance, reminders of what I value, and what I'm working towards.
I hope that you and those you care about are healthy and happy. All over the world, people are spending more time than ever in their homes due to the current situation. As such, people have had to adapt portions of their homes into makeshift offices.
The beachfront condo that we rented in 2012 in St. Thomas was our first experience in the Caribbean. We have returned to a different island every year since.
Over the years, I have been incorporating whispers from the Caribbean into my decor and when I stop to notice them, I am overwhelmed with bliss. What comes to mind when you read this question, "Who Are You?"
If you're coming up blank, think about the things you hear people say about you. What have people thanked you for? How do they describe you? How do you describe yourself? How do you want to be? What do you want more of in your life? I'm taking so much comfort in reading a book that belonged to my husband's late aunt. I love believing that she touched these very pages I'm touching and felt inspired by the very words I'm reading. We miss you Aunt Lor.
The perfect desk. The perfect wall color. The perfect chair. The perfect storage and organization solutions. If you're not already noticing the increasing buzz about creating a home office, it will soon be hard to miss.
